I use a Nokia E61i. My laptop is burnt and is probably beyond repair. Since I can’t afford another laptop at the moment, I use my phone for everything to do with internet. E-mail, blogging, chat, surfing and even downloading torrents. Now E-mail is pretty easy, I use gmail and my phone support IMAP4 or POP3. For chat through G-talk or Y-messenger I use Fring. I knew that Symbian 60 platform is really good as u can install myriad applications. But it took me by surprise when I came across an application which allows you to download Torrents!!!
The application that I am talking about is SymTorrent. It is the first full-featured and complete BitTorrent client for Symbian OS. Like all other Torrent clients it is capable of downloading multiple torrent files at the same time, can save the status of your unfinished torrents, so you can resume the downloads after restarting the application. You can also check the status of each file inside a torrent along with several other statistics and properties during download.
As per their website, it is currently available for mobile devices based on the S60 Platform 3rd and 2nd edition. So thats a lot of phones, most Nokia Nseries/Eseries phones are on S60 platform.
And the best part is, it’s open source and is free. So just go to their website, download and start using it.
For downloading torrents on your phone(or computer), i suggest you use an unlimited data plan. I use Airtel GPRS, unlimited for Rs 99 a week. The download speed I get is around 20kbps.
I think thats pretty good for a GPRS connection. I have already downloaded some songs using SymTorrent.
But sometimes it tend to crash, i guess it coz i run too many applications at the same time. Apart from that, this is a really good application and all those who wants to download torrents directly to your phones should definitely give it a try.
